Private Tour to Embera Indigenous Community
Private Day Tour to the Embera Indigenous Community
Embark on a fascinating journey to a vital natural reserve, essential not only for providing drinking water to Panama City and Colón but also for ensuring the smooth operation of the Panama Canal.
The Embera Parara Puru is an indigenous community situated along the banks of the Chagres River and Lake Alajuela. This self-governed village follows its own laws and is led by a supreme chief, who upholds the rules within their territory. Join us to discover their unique customs and traditions, and take the opportunity to purchase beautiful handmade crafts directly from the community.
Our adventure begins with a serene canoe ride across Lake Alajuela, where you’ll be surrounded by lush vegetation. This peaceful excursion lasts about 20-30 minutes and offers the chance for a refreshing swim at our first stop. We recommend wearing closed water shoes, especially if you have knee issues or balance concerns. If you prefer to skip the swim, you can remain in the canoe or simply enjoy capturing the beauty of the area with your camera.
Our next stop takes us to the Embera village, where you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about their traditional way of life. Observe how they have embraced aspects of modernity while maintaining their cultural roots—an enriching experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
